The vision of the Micro Enterprise Projects of the Africa Navigators is to combine Africa’s abundant human and natural resources with the right vision, competent servant leadership, proper management of resources and above all, authentic discipleship. Our engagement in micro enterprises has the following goals:
- To enable people to live productive lives economically and spiritually in their context.
- To model and teach discipleship and Christian lifeztyle in the workplace
- To enable people to labor for a lifetime in economically difficult environments, being salt and light
- To meet needs.
The Africa Navigators MEPs are found in various economic sectors. They include small scale manufacturing (bakeries and production of construction materials) agriculture, and various service industries such hotels, restaurants, medical clinics and even savings and credit cooperative schemes. Navigator MEPs are found in Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
The Kenyan MEP is the largest and most structured. This project has funded over 160 enterprises in diverse economic sectors. The trustees of this scheme are pleased with the enviable 96% repayment rate of all monies advanced since the inception of the fund. Through the Graduate Assistance Program of the Kenyan MEP, young graduates are empowered to become effective stewards of God’s resources and opportunities who become creators, rather than seekers, of jobs.
