The Navigators are present in ten of the twenty or so French speaking countries in Sub-Saharan Africa. In two of these countries the work is led by nationals. African or western missionaries lead the work in the other countries. The many socio-economic difficulties faced by Francophone countries in Sub-Saharan Africa have made many conscious of their need for God. There is greater openness to the gospel.
The ministry of the Navigators, which focuses on in-depth training of disciples, seeks to train and send out laborers to the harvest field. Our desire is to start viable ministries in the Francophone sub-Saharan Africa. This will transmit the Navigator vision and demonstrate the impact disciples and laborers can have on a country and a continent. Below is some information on selected country ministries:
THE NAVIGATORS IN MALI
The Navigators are present in Bamako, the Malian capital and focus on students and youth. The work in Mali is led by Phil & Susan Watson, missionaries from the United Kingdom. This ministry begun in 2001, and was officially recognized by government in 2007.
THE NAVIGATORS IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE
The Navigators have been present in Côte d’Ivoire since 1985. The national leadership team has 17 members and has been led since 2005 by Jean-Martial and Kady Amessan. The work centers on Abidjan, the capital, although plans are afoot to move into other zones again with the normalization of the socio-political scene.
